		<description>DRAFT
Alison Ingamells
5th April  – 27th April 2013

&#60;img src="http://payload160.cargocollective.com/1/6/202295/5512674/helismaller.jpg" width="670" height="741" width_o="1050" height_o="1162" src_o="http://payload160.cargocollective.com/1/6/202295/5512674/helismaller_o.jpg" data-mid="29686803"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

DRAFT presents a new video installation by Alison Ingamells, using play and chance to activate potential trajectories for figures and objects in striking natural environments. Referencing the history of landscape photography and painting, Ingamells disrupts the framework by interjecting with absurd or unexpected happenings. Amidst these physical interventions, questions of control, movement and perception are explored through obscurity.

Alison Ingamells is an emerging artist currently undertaking a Bachelor of Fine Art at VCA in Melbourne.

Catherine Connolly's practice is involved in examinations and reinterpretations of a range of cultural forms from cinema to Minimalism. Her works explore artistic concerns from desire and performativity, narrative and its rupture to more emotive interests regarding representation, the uncanny and the use of humour in contemporary art.</description>

		<description>FONTANA ACQUA
Jimmy Nuttall
8th February - 2nd March 2013

&#60;img src="http://payload126.cargocollective.com/1/6/202295/4834304/Image 2.jpg" width="670" height="442" width_o="2048" height_o="1353" src_o="http://payload126.cargocollective.com/1/6/202295/4834304/Image 2_o.jpg" data-mid="27485011"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Fontana Acqua responds to the discomfort and self-consciousness experienced in public spaces, by mirroring an arbitrary changing space familiar to a sports club, public pool or spa. Fontana Acqua channels deeper feelings of gender disparity and alienation that influence this state of unease.

The public shower is like no other. It sanctions itself off as a place in society where one is left feeling overly exposed and where masculinity is called into question.

With the relocation of this intimate space in to the public domain of DUDSPACE, Jimmy Nuttall is juxtaposing his own self-conscious feelings of male identity and masculinity with notions of the idealized Australian male. Nuttall is playing with the sense of disparity within his own maleness while challenging his sense of alienation and vulnerability.

Jimmy Nuttall is an emerging artist form Melbourne currently undertaking his Honours degree in Painting at MADA, Monash University. His work is preoccupied with a discomfort around cultural and nationalist ideals found in sport, art and mass media. Using mimicry and reenactment as a methodology, his work frequently discusses gendered states of being that are perpetuated by these outlets.

Forced Collaboration is a project run by DUDSPACE where two emerging artists are forced to collaborate. Artists are given a studio space for 3 weeks and have a show in DUDSPACE as the outcome. Forced Collaboration intends to foster risk, failure and experimentation.

		<description>BUT YES
Lani Seligman
19th October - 10th November 2012

&#60;img src="http://payload106.cargocollective.com/1/6/202295/4420716/Blunt_11.jpeg" width="670" height="434" width_o="670" height_o="434" src_o="http://payload106.cargocollective.com/1/6/202295/4420716/Blunt_11_o.jpeg" data-mid="23427711"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

YES BUT offers a conversational exchange between two words which are full of reflexivity. Dudspace
becomes activated by the interplay between states duress, redefinition and/or polite concession.

This large neon work offers a complex inversion between states of affirmation/concession and defiance/redefinition. YES can be encountered as pure affirmation or a state of contrition. Conversely, BUT is an act of defiance, redefinition or positive assertion. There is a conversational play between the text.

Seligman is currently completing her PhD at the Victorian College of the Arts. She has previously exhibited at the Monash Gallery of Art, Gertrude Contemporary, Conical, Bus Projects and internationally. She uses video, photography and text to examine how the lived body renders experiences of duress and resilience.

Acquiesce is an open-ended, research based project that investigates the potential for urban spaces to be in dialogue with each other, considering the positioning of the individual in regards to each space’s internal logic and structuring.

Using Peters Reserve, a park in Northcote, and Yarraville Square, a shopping centre in Yarraville as sites for this investigation, methods of drawing, photography, intervention and sculpture have been documented and processed, the gallery becoming both a hybrid space, and a venue to facilitate the research.

Nina’s mother has a shortcut on her phone when she types in ‘Th.’ ‘Thinking of you hope you’re having a lovely day, Kxxx’ appears, so she can send it to Nina and her siblings with minimal effort.

Nina is making this piece in return, to not only highlight her mothers attributes, but her quirks and defects, because she finds these things the most humorous.

You Came Out of Me is a phrase one of the subjects repeats over and over in her attempts to enact her mother; to capture, as per the artist’s instructions, her mother’s mannerisms, attributes, quirks, expressions, her habits.

Separate to the artist’s explicit instructions were her sneaky, secret expectations, hidden from the subject’s understanding but actually forming the work’s basis: to capture the ultimately complex nature of our relationships with our mothers, and our limitations in understanding and representing them.

In transition from self into mother and back again, a portrait of their mother, their relationship with their mother, and an unwitting self-portrait is revealed.

Nina Mulhall is a Melbourne based artist who predominantly works with video. Women are an integral part of Nina’s practice; wives, mothers and the female face - looking at the gaze and the portrait of ‘the other’ or ‘the unseen’ are dominating aspects of her work.

		<description>Not In Kansas Anymore
Minna Gilligan
27th JULY  –  18th AUGUST 2012

With Minna Gilligan's exhibition Not In Kansas Anymore, DUDSPACE becomes a psychedelic sanctum. Here, Minna is spun again into her ridiculous, out-of-proportion romanticizing of romance.

Minna's favourite sentiments appear to be sun drenched, of the 60s and 70s, fanciful, idealistic, writhing with potency and Bob Dylan rhymes.

Her works or 'tributes' are made on whims, conglomerations of daydreams and reincarnated rememberings. Stuttering on old 70s bedspreads are awkward paint marks born from a contorted, unthinking flick of a wrist.

Muddy patches of fabric dye and bleach are landscapes for picture protagonists, hurriedly cut out from old books. Fragmentary allusions to personal exhalations and traumas are in every subtlety, unable to fully be articulated.

Everything appears on the horizon and to exist in that nebulous space next to the pot of gold, at the end of the rainbow. "Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore".
